A little hat, a candle’s light,
A face alight with pure delight.
Before you know which way to go,
Love makes a home where you can grow.

Beneath a cap of paper blue,
You wave to friends who grew with you.
Your name, once hard to write, is clear;
A wider world is drawing near.

Old playground trees stand green and tall;
Your name comes ringing down the hall.
You lift your cap, then face the day
With all those lessons tucked away.

The tassel turns; the road runs wide.
Your oldest friends stand side by side.
You make your plans beneath the sky,
Then hold them close and say goodbye.

Boys

Girls

A brim pulled low against the rain,
You find your way and try again.
Among new names and streets unknown,
You build a life that is your own.

Boys

Girls

The midnight lamp, the pages turned,
The harder truths you’ve slowly learned—
Beneath your cap, they travel too,
Into the work that’s yours to do.

Boys

Girls

Two vows are made, two hands entwine;
No longer only yours or mine.
Your hats hang side by side, and there
Begins a life you learn to share.

Couple

A tiny hat, a sleepy sigh;
Small fingers curl; the hours slip by.
You learn, through nights that feel so long,
How gentle hands can still be strong.

Couple

The brims grow soft; the years go by.
You know each laugh, each weary sigh.
An offered hand, a burden shared—
Love lives in all the ways you’ve cared.

Couple

You hang your working hat with care;
There’s still so much of you to share.
A story told, a seed to sow,
And room for other joys to grow.
